Position Overview:
As a Professor of Practice in Advocacy, you will play a vital role in the success of our students by planning and organizing advocacy events, mentoring and coaching trial advocates, and collaborating with other faculty and staff. This position reports to the Dean of the Law School and requires a Juris Doctor degree and a minimum of two years of practice experience or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and manage the School of Law's advocacy programs, including competition teams such as Mock Trial and Moot Court
- Collaborate with the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and the Director of Experiential Programs in evaluating and developing the College of Law's advocacy skills program
- Coach and teach students in advocacy programs and related courses
- Create and monitor budgets for external competition programs and recruit and supervise coaches for the College of Law's advocacy competition teams
Minimum Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor degree and two years of practice experience or equivalent combination of experience and training
- Proven interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to interact effectively and professionally with others
- Willingness to work flexible hours
- Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Ability to work under pressure and adjust to a changing environment
- Ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships
- Ability to work independently and make decisions within a framework of broad goals and objectives
- Ability to conceptualize, plan, and organize multiple programs and assignments effectively
- Ability to engage in critical thinking and exercise independent judgment
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with students or in a higher education setting
- Experience working with moot court, mock trial, or other law school competition teams
Work Schedule:
As required by academic and competition schedules
