Introduction:

Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid’s Minnesota Disability Law Center (MDLC) is seeking a full-time Legal Director to lead and coordinate casework and legal advocacy activity at MDLC. This position will report to the MDLC Deputy Director and will work in collaboration with the Deputy Director to ensure that MMLA/MDLC civil legal services at the Minnesota Disability Law Center are efficiently managed, strategically engaged, and culturally competent. The position is both administratively and for compensation purposes at the Managing Attorney level.

Responsibilities:

- Provide leadership in advancing organizational goals and objectives at MDLC
- Engage and coordinate with community and legal professional partnerships and collaborations
- Direct case selection and assignment
- Manage a small caseload of clients
- Supervise and manage direct reports within MDLC
- Oversee legislative policy work
- Lead meetings to discuss ongoing intakes, cases, and legal work
- Manage case handling systems and refine processes
- Provide litigation support, training, and mentorship to staff
- Lead and manage impact litigation in coordination with the Litigation Director and MDLC Deputy Director
- Support team leaders on strategy and potential impact litigation
- Coordinate meetings with the Mental Health PAIMI Advisory Council
- Assist in hiring, onboarding, and orientation of MDLC staff
- Assist in leading the annual priority setting process
- Assist with grant reporting
- Perform other assigned responsibilities

Qualifications:

- Must be licensed to practice law in Minnesota or eligible for admission by reciprocity
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities or disability rights and advocacy
- 3-5 years of leadership/supervision experience
- 8+ years of legal experience
- 4+ years of litigation experience, including class action
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proven record of effective case handling and outcomes
- Knowledge of key areas of Protection and Advocacy Agency legal concerns
- Experience with legislative, policy, and systemic advocacy
- Ability to obtain a Level V moderate risk public trust government clearance
- Access to reliable transportation for statewide travel

Preferred Qualifications:

- Second language ability, particularly Spanish, ASL, Hmong, or Somali
- Diverse economic, social, and cultural experiences

Compensation:

This position offers a salary range of $101,973 - $118,410 per year, depending on experience. Benefits include family medical and dental insurance, short- and long-term disability, life insurance, 403(b) with employer match, FSA, employee assistance programs, and generous paid time off.
