Land Use Planner - Full Time - Reston, VA
Position Summary:
The Law Firm is seeking a Land Use Planner to work alongside real estate attorneys and senior land planners. The role involves assisting owners, developers and investors with all aspects of land use and zoning, development and operation of residential, commercial, and large-scale mixed-use projects. The ideal candidate will have experience in land use planning or a related real estate position, and will be responsible for preparing and managing land development applications, conducting due diligence, and networking with clients and government officials. This is a full-time position located in Reston, VA.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare, manage, and oversee rezoning, special exception and other land development applications in Fairfax, Loudoun, Prince William and Arlington Counties and the Cities of Alexandria, Falls Church and Fairfax
- Assist with processing of permits and bonds
- Conduct land use, zoning, title, and survey due diligence
- Research, monitor, and report on revisions to local land use policies and zoning ordinances
- Network and develop relationships with clients, engineers, architects, citizen groups, planning commissioners, and elected officials
- Attend public hearings and assist in preparing public presentations
- Work directly with clients and planning staff of various jurisdictions
- Correspond with elected officials to discuss proposed land use projects
- Participate in local land use, transportation, and real estate associations and forums
- Coordinate with partner and associate attorneys on legal issues related to land use projects
- Prepare project closing binders and records of project approvals
- Present land use applications to planning commissions, board of supervisors, and council members
- Train and mentor members of the land use team
- Other duties as assigned by Paralegal Management or supervising attorneys
Requirements:
- Available to work overtime, as needed
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, iManage, and other firm applications
- 4+ years of experience in land use planning or related real estate position
- Bachelor's Degree in urban planning, urban design, or related field
- Ability to bill a minimum of 1600 hours annually
- Member of American Planning Association (APA) preferred
- AICP or LEED certification preferred
