The Los Angeles office of Lewis Brisbois, a full-service AmLaw 100 firm, is actively seeking an experienced attorney to join its Civil Rights & Police Litigation Defense Task Force. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team and defend public entities, including law enforcement agencies and their officers, in state and federal courts and/or administrative proceedings.
The ideal candidate will have at least one (1) to seven (7) years of experience in civil litigation, with at least one (1) year of experience specifically in defending public entities. Admission to the California Bar is required. Although trial experience is preferred, it is not a requirement.
Lewis Brisbois' Civil Rights & Police Litigation Defense Task Force provides a range of litigation defense and counseling to cities, counties, regional governments, and other public entities. As part of this team, you will handle the defense of civil rights cases, primarily against law enforcement officers, arising from police uses of force and wrongful death claims. You will also have the opportunity to work on other high-profile, high-stakes, trial-centric civil litigation related to government entities.
Qualified candidates should have experience in multiple phases of civil litigation, including drafting responsive pleadings and related motions, preparing written discovery requests/responses and related meet-and-confer letters, taking and defending witness depositions, assisting with the preparation of dispositive motions and related exhibits, and presenting cases to juries at trial. Strong writing and analytical skills are a must, as well as the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will be a self-starter with the ability to work independently and as part of a team of exceptional trial attorneys and appellate advocates.
While experience in public agency and civil rights/constitutional law is preferred, the firm is also open to working with talented attorneys with experience in any litigation arena as long as they are willing to learn the firm's practice/approach and dedicate themselves to their clients' interests. This is a great opportunity for an attorney with substantive litigation experience looking to join a growing, collaborative firm.
In addition to competitive compensation, Lewis Brisbois offers a range of benefits including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, 401k with employer contribution, and a bonus for those who meet the minimum hourly requirement of 1,950 hours per year. Partial remote work options are also available.
If you are an experienced attorney with a passion for defending public entities and are looking for a new opportunity, we invite you to apply for this position with Lewis Brisbois. Join our team of exceptional attorneys and help us provide top-quality legal services to our clients.
