Job Title: Deputy District Attorney I

Job Responsibilities:
- Under direction, assist the District Attorney in the prosecution of criminal cases.
- Prosecute misdemeanor and infraction cases.
- Receive requests for complaints filed by arresting officers and determine the nature of the crime and whether the evidence justifies prosecution.
- Appear in all courts and present criminal cases.
- Conduct court and jury trials.
- Prepare briefs and legal opinions.
- Conduct legal research.
- Prepare correspondence and memos.
- Present laws, facts, and arguments clearly in both written and oral formats.
- Work collaboratively in a team environment and exercise prosecutorial discretion judiciously.

Education and Experience Information:
- Active membership in the State Bar of California is mandatory.
- Deputy District Attorney I: Entry-level position; no prior experience required beyond bar membership.
- Deputy District Attorney II: Requires either one year of experience comparable to Deputy District Attorney I or two years of experience practicing law.
- Deputy District Attorney III: Requires either two years of experience comparable to Deputy District Attorney or three years of experience practicing criminal law.

Salary Information:
- Hourly: -
- Monthly: $7, - $12,
- Annually: $86, - $146,
- Deputy District Attorney I: $7,224 - $9,220 approximate monthly / – approximate hourly.

Benefits Information:
- Sign-on Bonus: $15,000, paid in two installments.
- Paid Holidays: 12 paid holidays (96 hours) per year.
- Paid Vacation: Based on years of continuous service. (0-3 years: 10 days; 4-9 years: 15 days; 10-15 years: 17 days; 16+ years: 20 days)
- Paid Sick Leave: 96 hours per year, with no maximum accrual.
- Retirement: CalPERS with County contributions, coordinated with Social Security.
- Insurance: Medical, dental, and vision plans with the County contributing to premiums.
- Other benefits include deferred compensation plans, Employee Assistance Program, IRC Section 125 plan, and optional additional insurance products.

Special Requirements:
- Possession of a valid California driver’s license.

- The position requires working closely with victims of crime, which may involve exposure to graphic materials and victimization stories.
