The ACLU-WA is seeking an experienced attorney to join their team and work on complex civil actions in state and federal courts to protect and advance civil liberties for all Washingtonians. This is a full-time, remote position that requires a minimum of 1 year of legal experience. The successful candidate will have excellent problem-solving skills, the ability to juggle multiple projects, and a commitment to advocating for expanded civil rights and liberties.

Responsibilities:

- Investigate, file, and litigate civil liberties and civil rights cases in state and federal courts.
- Participate in the organization's race equity work.
- Maintain an active docket of cases with assistance from outside attorneys and senior staff.
- Engage in advocacy, coordinate with policy-focused attorneys, and provide legal analysis to advance the organization's work.
- Represent the organization publicly, including speaking to media.
- Travel and work on nights and weekends may be necessary.

Experience and Qualifications:

- Minimum of 1 year of legal experience.
- Previous experience in constitutional law litigation, trial experience, and litigating in Washington is a plus.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Superior writing, research, and verbal communication skills.
- Leadership and organizational skills.
- Awareness of and willingness to engage in the work of challenging systems of oppression and racism.
- Member of the Washington State Bar or eligible to be admitted by motion.

Work Environment/Conditions:

- Hybrid workstyle with some staff working remotely and others in the office.
- Physical demands include working on a computer for long periods of time.
- Ability to work some evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Occasional travel within the state may be required.

Total Compensation:

- Salary range of $129,086 - $154,612.
