Overview:
Genentech, a leading biotechnology company, is seeking a highly experienced Legal Counsel to join their Healthcare Law Group (HLG). The Senior Corporate Counsel Specialist, Assistant General Counsel of Product Support will provide legal advice and support for the commercialization of Genentech's products, including commercial, medical affairs, market access, and government affairs. This role reports to a Practice Group Lead for Product in the Genentech Legal Department and is based at their South San Francisco campus.
Key Responsibilities:
- Providing legal advice and support across the lifecycle of Genentech's products, including commercial, medical affairs, market access, and government affairs
- Serving as lead legal counsel for product lifecycle and cross-functional product or therapeutic area-focused business teams and initiatives
- Advising on business strategies, tactical plan development and implementation, and other business issues
- Advising on transactions to support external collaborations and partnerships
- Counseling on appropriate relationships with healthcare professionals, clinics and societies, patients and advocacy organizations, organized customers, and government entities
- Developing and implementing training on key policies, procedures, practices, and requirements for healthcare and related legal compliance
- Liaising and negotiating with co-promotion partners’ legal counsel to enable and drive for successful partnership outcomes
- Identifying opportunities to create value for the business and Legal colleagues and manage legal issues
- Participating in, leading and/or presenting to various Company committees or other advisory, project or work teams
- Providing subject matter expertise and strategic oversight for key products, projects, and/or initiatives that add value to stakeholders, the business, and Legal department
Qualifications:
- 12+ years of recent relevant legal experience in product support of biotech/pharma
- A United States law degree (.) and current “good standing” admission to at least one . state bar, or be eligible to apply to California’s Registered In House Counsel program
- Mastery of subject matter expertise and business fluency in relation to enforcement trends, the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act and related regulations, the False Claims Act, and laws related to fraud and abuse in the life science/biotech/pharma industries
- Excellent and effective oral and written communications skills
- Team player and strong collaboration skills
- Ability to influence without authority and present complex information to senior leaders
- Demonstrated enterprise and growth mindset
- Evidence of high emotional intelligence to successfully navigate challenging issues in a high performance environment
Salary and Benefits:
- Expected salary range of $203,800 - $378,400 (actual pay determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law)
- Discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance
