Overview
The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) is seeking a skilled and experienced attorney to join their General Litigation Division (GLD) as an Assistant Attorney General II-III. GLD handles a wide range of cases, with a focus on constitutional and civil rights litigation, employment litigation, and matters that affect the daily lives of Texans. Responsibilities
- Represent state agencies and officials in defense of lawsuits involving civil rights, employment, and other legal issues in both state and federal court
- Handle investigations, legal research, and preparation of complex motions and pleadings
- Provide legal advice and counsel to state agencies, and prepare and file briefs in appellate courts
- Work collaboratively with other attorneys and staff within a dynamic office environment
- Prepare and try cases in state and federal courts
- Maintain knowledge of laws and legal principles relevant to the General Litigation Division
- Attend work regularly and comply with agency policies and procedures, including those pertaining to ethics and integrity
- Ensure security and confidentiality of sensitive information
Qualifications
- Minimum of one year of experience working in civil litigation as a licensed attorney
- Graduation from an accredited law school with a .
- Licensed as an attorney by the State of Texas and in good standing with the State Bar of Texas
- Knowledge of laws and legal principles relevant to the General Litigation Division
- Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize, and meet deadlines
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Sound judgment and effective decision making abilities
- Ability to receive and respond positively to constructive feedback
- Ability to work cooperatively with others in a professional office environment
- Ability to provide excellent customer service
- Ability to work in person at assigned OAG work location and travel up to 5% for business-related purposes
- Ability to work more than 40 hours as needed and in compliance with the FLSA
- Ability to lift and relocate 30 lbs.
- Ability to proficiently read, write, and speak English
Preferred Qualifications
- Two years of experience working in civil litigation as a licensed attorney
- Knowledge of laws and procedures of the General Litigation Division
- State and federal court trial experience
- Ability to proficiently read, write, and speak English
