About the Organization:
The Justice Center of Southeast Massachusetts is a subsidiary of South Coastal Counties Legal Services, Inc. (SCCLS), the primary provider of free civil legal aid to low-income residents in Southeastern Massachusetts, Cape Cod, and the Islands of Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket. SCCLS is dedicated to achieving justice for eligible clients through community-based advocacy, with a focus on legal services in housing, public benefits, elder law, domestic relations, employment, education, immigration, and consumer matters. With offices located in Hyannis, New Bedford, Fall River, and Brockton, SCCLS serves a diverse and vibrant community.
Job Responsibilities:
• Case management and community engagement experience and/or a Paralegal Certificate or Bachelor’s degree required
• Commitment to working with clients and community members from all backgrounds who may have experienced poverty, trauma, or discrimination required
• Knowledge and experience in housing law desirable
• Prior experience advocating for individuals or policy platforms, or experience engaging in community action and/or organizing desirable
• Ability to work independently and as a team member; goal and detail-oriented with the ability to prioritize
• Ability to work effectively with people from diverse cultures, with diverse opinions and values, including staff, volunteers, students, community members, and funders
• Fluency in a second language which reflects our client communities (Haitian Creole, Spanish, Portuguese, Cape Verdean Creole) strongly preferred
• Ability to be flexible and multitask; willingness to become familiar with a variety of substantive law matters; ability to establish hybrid client and colleague relationships with a combination of in-person and remote work
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, social media, or graphic design; familiarity with other technology platforms desirable; willingness to become effective and efficient in the use of case management system required
Compensation and Benefits:
• Salaries are based on a collective bargaining agreement scale starting at $52,100 and increasing based on years of experience.
• Staff receive yearly standard increases and an annual increment for demonstrated language skills.
• Generous benefits package includes health and dental with supplemental coverage, life insurance, disability, flexible spending account, and 403(b).
• Generous paid leave including sick, vacation, personal, and holidays.
Qualifications:
