This position will focus on providing legal support for **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. Life's investment portfolio and its investment management subsidiaries. The successful candidate will have a law degree from an ABA accredited school and 9+ years of experience in a law firm or in-house corporate law department. This role will be located at the company's corporate headquarters in Minneapolis, MN and will be a hybrid working position with 60% of time spent in the office.
The Senior Counsel-Associate General Counsel will be responsible for providing high quality legal services in a timely and cost-efficient manner. They will also provide comprehensive legal support for a large life insurance company and its investment management subsidiary, including reviewing, negotiating, and drafting investment related agreements. This includes investment management agreements, subadvisory agreements, and IDSA Master Agreements.
In addition, the Senior Counsel-Associate General Counsel will advise on legal and regulatory requirements, corporate policies and procedures, and best practices for managing risk. They will also analyze business plans and participate in project teams and corporate initiatives to identify legal risks and advise clients on mitigation strategies. Other responsibilities include offering legal support to the investment governance, risk, and compliance team, assisting with corporate governance and operational matters, and collaborating cross-functionally with other attorneys and outside counsel.
The ideal candidate will have a law degree from an ABA accredited school and be licensed to practice in Minnesota or an active member in good standing with a state bar with the ability to be admitted in Minnesota within six months of hiring. They will also have 9+ years of experience with a law firm or in-house corporate law department, with broad experience in providing legal counsel on sophisticated institutional and alternative investments, hedging and derivatives trading, and general corporate governance matters. Experience in providing legal counsel on distressed assets or assets in workout arrangements is also preferred.
The Senior Counsel-Associate General Counsel should be an initiative-taker with strong organizational, communication, and people skills. They should also be inquisitive and willing to learn and expand their legal knowledge in unanticipated areas and take on new challenges. The ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects is essential, as well as demonstrated success as a team member and in collaborating with business partners.
This is a full-time, permanent position with a hybrid working arrangement. The base salary range is $141,000 - $282,000, with actual base salary varying based on factors such as relevant experience, qualifications, internal equity of peers, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for an annual incentive program.
