The **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. is seeking experienced civil litigation attorneys for the position of Assistant State's Attorney in the Civil Actions Bureau. The office represents Cook County officials and employees in a wide range of litigation matters and offers a highly collegial and collaborative work environment. The salary for this position ranges from $88,434 to $156,060 and is determined by the Chief of Staff.

The main responsibilities of this role include representing Cook County officials and employees in any type of action filed against them in their official capacity. The office practices in various areas such as civil rights and torts claims defense, labor & employment, constitutional claims, medical malpractice defense, real estate tax matters, child support litigation, revenue recovery efforts, government law, workers’ compensation litigation, and advisory opinions.

The minimum qualifications for this position include a Juris Doctor degree and a license to practice in the State of Illinois, along with at least 1 year of civil litigation experience. Preferred qualifications include significant litigation experience in the areas of law and forums in which the office practices, institutional knowledge of Cook County government, and experience representing government clients. The ideal candidate should also possess strong writing, research, oral advocacy, and organizational skills.

An Assistant State’s Attorney in the Civil Actions Bureau typically handles their case load independently, but with lots of training and support, and a wealth of opportunities for collaboration.
