Associate Legal Assistant - Support Staff - Indianapolis, IN (HYBRID)
GEICO, one of the largest insurance companies in the United States, is seeking an Associate Legal Assistant to join their Staff Counsel Office in Indianapolis, IN. This is a full-time position with a hybrid work arrangement, allowing for a mix of remote and in-office work. The successful candidate will have at least 2 years of experience as a legal secretary, paralegal, or legal assistant handling personal injury litigation matters.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of legal concepts, practices, and Staff Counsel procedures applicable by jurisdiction. They will also have experience drafting and revising routine legal documents, handling multiple administrative and legal tasks, and participating in the preparation of pleadings, motions, notices, and other legal documents. Additionally, the successful candidate will have experience reviewing invoices, communicating with clients and third parties, and maintaining attorney and office calendars.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform mid-level legal assistant and administrative duties for a Staff Counsel Office
- Develop a working knowledge of legal concepts, practices, and Staff Counsel procedures applicable by jurisdiction
- Draft and revise routine legal documents
- Handle multiple administrative and legal tasks to support attorneys
- Participate in the preparation of pleadings, motions, notices, and other legal documents
- Review invoices and ensure compliance with company policies
- Communicate with clients, claims personnel, adversaries, and tribunals as needed
- Maintain relationships with attorneys, outside departments, courts, clients, and third parties
- Provide training and onboarding support for Staff Counsel Support Staff
Qualifications:
- 2 years of experience as a legal secretary, paralegal, or legal assistant handling personal injury litigation matters
- Notary license may be required based on jurisdiction
- Experience preparing routine legal documents
- Familiarity with managing and monitoring court filings and suits
- Ability to handle paper and electronic mail
- Strong organizational skills and ability to maintain attorney and office calendars
- Experience assisting in the discovery process
- Excellent communication skills and ability to handle complex inquiries
- Familiarity with reviewing invoices and ensuring compliance with company policies
