The Senior Manager will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of research services within the firm. This includes not only leading a new approach to legal research, but also driving the development and execution of new competitive intelligence strategies. This role also involves building and managing a high-performing team, rethinking processes, and upskilling library staff to meet the evolving demands of the legal landscape. This is a remote position and can be located in any city.
Essential Functions:
- Lead the transformation of library research services by integrating advanced technologies, AI-driven tools, and process improvement to enhance the quality and speed of legal research services.
- Manage a small team of research professionals to deliver client-focused, legal research services for attorneys and paralegals.
- Establish a client-centric research model that emphasizes responsiveness and high-quality output, tailored to specific client needs.
- Coordinate legal research training and refreshers for attorneys on new applications and approaches.
- Create and implement a comprehensive competitive and client intelligence strategy to identify market trends, emerging legal opportunities, and competitor activities.
- Partner with practice groups, business development, and senior leadership to understand key client needs and deliver actionable insights.
- Support the management of the firm's budget, contracts, and subscriptions for research and intelligence tools and platforms.
- Negotiate and manage licensing agreements to ensure access to up-to-date research resources and tools.
- Lead comprehensive training for the research team, including upskilling on new technologies and methodologies.
- Mentor and manage the professional growth of research team members.
- Foster a team-oriented culture focused on knowledge sharing and continuous learning.
- Work closely with practice groups, business development, recruiting, and client relationship teams to provide research support for client opportunities and strategic planning.
- Communicate research findings and market intelligence to diverse audiences in a clear and actionable manner.
Requirements:
- Proven expertise in leading research teams, driving technological change, and creating innovative research solutions.
- Familiarity with cutting-edge legal research technologies, including AI, machine learning, and predictive analytics.
- Strong project management skills in a fast-paced, client-driven environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across multiple teams.
- Familiarity with budget management, vendor negotiations, and subscription-based services in the legal research field.
- Bachelor's degree in research, library or information sciences, or a relevant field; advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in legal research, competitive intelligence, and/or knowledge management within a law firm or similar professional services environment.
