Litigation Paralegal The candidate will be interacting with colleagues, clients, opposing counsel, and vendors in a professional manner. Maintaining an electronic calendar of upcoming case events and deadlines. Maintaining a database of firm contacts, including clients, potential clients, legal professionals, vendors, and others. Handling state and federal court filings (both electronic and paper) as well as service of documents on parties and non-parties. Using Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel applications. Undertaking online research, including basic familiarity with Westlaw/Lexis. Performing factual investigations, including client and witness interviews. Engaging and working with legal industry vendors such as process servers, electronic discovery providers, and private investigators. Collecting and managing client and third-party records. Drafting basic discovery requests and responses. Reviewing documents for responsiveness, relevance, and privilege. Managing hard-copy and electronic discovery, including production formats and document management systems. Supervising and managing the work of document clerks and other junior staff. Drafting personal injury settlement demand letters. Attending independent medical evaluations with clients. Negotiating client health care liens with insurance claims representatives. Should have 4 years of general litigation experience, including personal injury, real estate, and business litigation. Should have excellent oral and written communication skills, including grammar, spelling, and proofreading. Should have experience attending and assisting with civil trials. Active licensed California notary. Current California driver's license. Familiarity with probate procedures and filings is a must. Experience recording documents with county recorders is a must.
