Senior Consultant, Tax Controversy - Deloitte National Tax Services
Position Summary:
- Experienced advocate with interest in resolving federal tax controversies
- Assist in resolving federal tax controversies for various types of taxpayers
- Conduct legal research and provide oral and written advocacy for clients
- Passion for applying knowledge of IRS practice and procedure for best outcomes
- Curiosity about IRS's new centralized partnership audit regime
Work you'll do:
- Part of experienced team of professionals committed to resolving tax controversies
- Provide in-depth knowledge of IRS practice and procedure
- Work with a wide variety of issues with the IRS
- Well-versed in achieving the best outcomes for clients
- Professionals with previous experience at the IRS and Treasury
Responsibilities include:
- Pre-examination audit readiness analysis
- Examination planning and representation
- IRS Appeals representation
- Drafting and negotiation of Private Letter Rulings and 9100 relief requests
- Drafting of tax opinions and memoranda
- Penalty abatement requests
- Litigation support

- Serve clients ranging from Fortune 100 C-corporations to private equity funds and individuals

Qualifications:
Required:
- 3+ years of tax experience
- 1-2 years of federal tax experience
- Experience in corporate and partnership tax
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or other business-related field
- Ability to work in a hybrid model requiring in-person work 2-3 days per week
- Previous experience at a law firm, IRS, Treasury, Big 4, or CPA firm
- Ability to travel 25% on average, based on work and clients served
- Active accreditations such as CPA, licensed attorney, enrolled agent, PMP, or CFA
Preferred:
- Advanced degree such as Masters of Tax, JD and/or LLM, Macc, or MBA
- Experience with federal tax controversy issues
- Excellent research and communication skills
Salary Information:
- Recruiting for this role until 5/31/2025
- Wage range: $66,570 to $151,580 (may vary based on factors such as skill sets, experience, and certifications)
- Eligible for discretionary annual incentive program based on individual and organizational performance
