Senior Counsel - Legal Advisor - Short Term (6-12 Months):

- Reputed global health organization seeking experienced Senior Counsel for internal legal counsel position
- Full-time, fixed-term position for 6-12 months with possibility of extension, open to part-time arrangements
- East Coast USA location, with up to 20% domestic and international travel
- Law degree and 10 years' experience as a Legal lead or in a senior legal position required, preference for experience in global health or development organizations or private law firm experience
- Active law license in the United States required
- Experience in international markets and negotiating complex agreements
- Strong cultural sensitivity and experience in a global, geographically dispersed organization
- Demonstrated experience advising organizational leadership and managing crises

About the Team:

- Global Operations, Finance, and Human Resources teams provide operational support to programmatic and country teams
- Work on issues and disease areas including HIV, vaccines, malaria, and maternal and newborn health
- About 1800 staff based in over 40 countries, primarily in Africa, Asia, and the Americas, with staff also in Europe and Australia

About the Role:

- Provide internal legal counsel to CHAI leadership and CHAI
- Responsible for overseeing and coordinating legal affairs, managing outside counsel, advising on investigations, employment and labor issues, contracts, risk management, and more
- Partner with and provide counsel to CHAI's leadership teams, finance teams, contracts, global operations, HR, country, and programmatic teams
- Manage relationships with outside counsel and partner with CHAI's Board Secretary and Legal Counsel on governance matters
- Full-time, fixed-term position for 6-12 months with the possibility of extension, open to part-time arrangements
- East Coast USA location, with up to 20% domestic and international travel

Responsibilities:

- Provide legal counsel to CHAI's leadership teams on all aspects of operations
- Advise on internal and external investigations, employment and labor issues, contracts, risk management, and more
- Partner with CHAI's contracts department and oversee protection of intellectual property rights
- Select and partner with outside counsel in local jurisdictions
- Oversee dispute resolution and develop operational efficiencies in addressing legal and tax ramifications
- Oversee CHAI's legal entity management and provide support to country leadership and global operations teams
- Provide guidance and compliance support to CHAI's country leadership and global operations teams on entity structures
- Support CHAI's Board of Directors and Secretary
- Advise on risk management strategies and support development of risk mitigation plans
- Partner with communications teams on key messaging and communications with donors, external stakeholders, and government partners
- Support drafting and implementation of organizational policies and procedures

Qualifications:

- Law degree and 10 years' experience as a Legal lead or in a senior legal position, with a preference for experience in global health or development organizations or comparable private law firm experience
- Active law license in the United States
- Experience in international markets and negotiating complex agreements
- Strong cultural sensitivity and experience in a global, geographically dispersed organization
- Demonstrated experience advising organizational leadership and managing crises
- Passionate about CHAI values and promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Located in ., EST time zone
- Ability to travel up to 20%
