As a community-based, not-for-profit organization with over 120 staff, we are dedicated to serving the people of upper Manhattan and the Bronx, and helping them on their paths to secure and prosperous futures. As a Tenants’ Rights Attorney at NMIC, you will be part of a dynamic and interdisciplinary team that provides comprehensive crisis intervention services and holistic programs to address the immediate needs of our community members. You will have the opportunity to work closely with our organizing and advocacy unit, as well as our tenant organizers, to provide legal representation and advocacy in housing matters. This includes representing clients in housing court, administrative hearings, and supreme court and appellate litigation. You will also have the chance to participate in community-based initiatives and work collaboratively to develop approaches to affordable housing retention and community stabilization.

Key responsibilities for this role include:

• Providing legal representation and advocacy to clients with housing issues, with a focus on group advocacy and affirmative litigation
• Working with the organizing and advocacy unit to provide representation in possible group or class action cases
• Participating in community-based initiatives on housing issues
• Providing clients with benefits advocacy
• Collaboratively developing approaches to affordable housing retention
• Maintaining accurate and up-to-date case notes and status updates in NMIC’s proprietary database
• Organizing and maintaining client files in compliance with grant requirements

To be considered for this position, you must have a . Law . and be admitted to the New York State Bar or willing to take the exam. Relevant housing and court experience is preferred, as well as experience working with similar populations in a community-based setting. Strong verbal and writing skills in English are required, and bilingual skills in English/Spanish are preferred but not required.
