Job Title: Environmental Senior Counsel

Job Responsibilities:
- Provide top-level professional legal advice and guidance on environmental legal matters to support the New York and New England businesses.
- Represent the company in complex federal and state "sediment and upland" superfund sites.
- Offer legal advice and counsel on matters before environmental regulators in New York.
- Advocate the company's position in complex environmental proceedings with regulators and other external stakeholders.
- Understand and apply complex legal, market, political, and regulatory aspects of the business.
- Build, maintain, and utilize internal and external networks to understand and influence legal, market, and regulatory best practices.
- Deliver subject matter expertise and guidance on environmental matters of concern to the New York business or complex business operational areas.
- Exercise independent judgment on complex and strategic legal matters to clients at the VP level or higher.
- Challenge and provide legal guidance on business initiatives where significant risks exist or have not been identified.
- Engage in business and departmental initiatives with company-wide significance, making informed legal and business recommendations to improve business performance.
- Identify significant corporate risks in business matters and provide legal guidance to mitigate these risks.
- Demonstrate leadership qualities and manage cross-matrix teams to high performance and success.
- Provide authoritative and commercially oriented legal advice and support to meet and support business objectives.
- Ensure all projects are appropriately assessed, designed, planned, resourced, and scheduled to ensure best value.
- Evaluate policy legislation standards to determine their impact on the company.
- Review and challenge existing policies and processes to ensure they are fit for purpose.
- Manage outside counsel to provide excellent service and significant value.
- Coach and challenge matrix project teams to advance substantive and leadership capabilities.
- Bring creative and innovative legal approaches for the benefit of the business client.
- Establish high-level confidence with senior executives, business clients, and external stakeholders.
- Manage numerous, complex matters efficiently and effectively.

Education and Experience Information:
- Juris Doctor Degree along with admission to, and in good standing with the New York state bar.
- 8+ years of legal experience.
- Significant experience within environmental regulatory matters.
- Knowledge of legislative/environmental issues affecting the industry.
- Experience with CERCLA, RCRA, and CWA issues, particularly with complex sites involving multiple responsible parties and regulatory authorities.
- Proven ability to communicate strategic context for business priorities.
- Experience managing and integrating the work of a functional discipline.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- High personal standards of commitment and integrity.
- Strong record of providing strategic leadership and planning.
- Ability to work collaboratively with the business and be viewed as a leader.
- Strong sense of teamwork and ability to work effectively on multidisciplinary teams.

Salary Information:
- $214k - $234k a year in Brooklyn, NY & Hicksville, NY.
- $179k - $195k a year in Syracuse, NY.
