Staff Commercial Counsel: Lead and Drive All Aspects of Commercial Contracting Function at Tekion
Tekion, a pioneering automotive technology company, is seeking a Staff Commercial Counsel to join their team. This is a unique opportunity to build a function from the ground up in a fast-paced, high-growth environment. As the Lead Commercial Counsel, you will play a critical role in negotiating complex agreements, building scalable processes, and partnering with cross-functional teams to enable the business while mitigating risk. This role reports directly to the General Counsel and offers a salary range of $117,300 to $198,400.

About the Role:
As the Lead Commercial Counsel at Tekion, you will:
- Lead the drafting, review, and negotiation of complex commercial agreements, including SaaS agreements, enterprise-level MSAs, SOWs, DPAs, and partnership agreements
- Build and scale the commercial legal function, including creating playbooks, templates, and processes for efficiency and consistency
- Partner closely with Sales, Finance, and other teams to ensure contracts align with revenue recognition principles and other relevant accounting standards
- Track and report key metrics related to contract volume, cycle times, and other KPIs to identify areas for improvement
- Develop and implement strategies to optimize the contracting process, balancing speed and risk mitigation
- Provide practical, business-focused legal advice to internal stakeholders on a wide range of commercial matters
- Stay up-to-date on relevant laws, regulations, and industry trends impacting SaaS companies
- Train and mentor team members as the function grows
About You:
- 8+ years of relevant legal experience, with a strong focus on commercial contracting in the SaaS or technology sector
- Extensive experience negotiating complex agreements with large enterprises
- Self-starter who can thrive in fast-paced, startup environments and build functions from scratch
- Business-minded individual who can balance legal risk with business priorities
- Familiarity with revenue recognition principles (ASC 606) and other relevant accounting standards
- Collaborative team player with strong communication skills at all levels

Salary Information:
- The salary range for this position is $117,300 to $198,400
- Actual compensation may vary based on geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements, and skill level
