The **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. is seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual for the position of John Marshall Fellow. This prestigious one-year fellowship is available to recent law school graduates who are passionate about representing the interests of the Commonwealth in federal and state courts. The John Marshall Fellow will work under the general direction of the Solicitor General and will be responsible for handling appellate litigation, including drafting briefs and presenting oral arguments. This is a full-time, salaried position with a competitive salary range of $103,000 to $112,000 per year.

Key Responsibilities:

• Represent the interests of the Commonwealth in federal and state courts;
• Handle appellate litigation, including drafting briefs and presenting oral arguments;
• Consult with the Solicitor General and others within the **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. and the executive branch of the Commonwealth’s government regarding pending and potential appellate litigation and the effect of rulings;
• Recommend whether the Commonwealth should draft or join amicus briefs with other state Attorneys General on issues of mutual interest.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Must be able to complete a background check;
• Must be admitted to the Virginia State Bar, have admission pending, or be able to waive into the Virginia State Bar promptly after joining the Office;
• Exceptional legal writing, research, and oral advocacy skills;
• Superior analytical ability, objectivity, and judgment;
• Ability to multitask, remain calm under pressure, and treat everyone with respect.

Additional Considerations:

• Completed appellate clerkship in federal or Virginia court strongly preferred.
