The AVP or VP, Senior Bankruptcy & Litigation Counsel will be responsible for overseeing all tenant bankruptcy filings and providing legal counsel to relevant decision makers within the company. This is a hybrid role, with Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday required in-office.
Primary Functions:
- Oversee all bankruptcy accounts/cases in accordance with bankruptcy codes and departmental guidelines
- Review and respond to legal pleadings, motions, and dockets
- Collaborate with Asset Management (AM) on commercial accounts and foreclosures
- Prepare quarterly bankruptcy reports and compile other bankruptcy statistics
- Participate on creditors' committees and attend court meetings as needed
- Provide legal support for business operations, including vendor and procurement, technology/IT, marketing, and social media
- Supervise outside counsel as needed to protect corporate and real estate assets
- Advise AM and Portfolio Management (PM) regarding risk assessment, compliance, and disputes
- Negotiate and draft settlement and lease termination agreements
- Develop strategies for reducing outside legal spend while maintaining excellent legal representation
- Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures
Secondary Functions:
- General document review and drafting
- Routine advice and counsel to all departments on legal matters
- Manage miscellaneous and various corporate legal matters
- Assist with tenant defaults and workouts
Requirements:
- Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school
- 7+ years of relevant or on-point legal experience for AVP, 10+ years for VP
- Significant experience in bankruptcy law, with a focus on representing landlords
- Membership in the State Bar of California or Arizona
Salary Information:
- AVP: $141,106 - $245,332 base salary
- VP: $190,269 - $315,039 base salary
- Eligibility for annual discretionary bonus and stock award to be discussed during initial phone interview
