The Senior Paralegal position at a leading energy company in Houston, Texas offers a challenging and exciting opportunity for an experienced paralegal. A paralegal certification is required, and a degree is preferred. Essential Functions and Requirements:
The Senior Paralegal will be responsible for managing various legal matters and outside counsel performance. This includes tracking and updating litigation matters and budget information, as well as assisting with contract management and regulatory functions for the company's midstream business. The successful candidate will also be responsible for managing the legal matter management system, acknowledging and tracking service of process, and preparing responses and objections to subpoenas.
In addition, the Senior Paralegal will liaise with the IT department for the preservation and collection of information for anticipated litigation, manage custodian interviews for document collection, and oversee the discovery/document requests made by outside counsel. They will also assist attorneys in the legal department, review internal documents, and manage eDiscovery software for document collection and production.
Other essential duties include managing the hold process for litigation, proofreading and editing legal documents, and preparing engagement letters for outside counsel. The Senior Paralegal will also perform initial investigations, interviews, and due diligence with project teams, attend meetings and legal proceedings when necessary, and perform contractor pre-qualifications by requesting financials and project resumes.
The successful candidate must have 8+ years of paralegal experience, preferably in a law firm or publicly traded company. They must also have a paralegal certification, with a degree being preferred. The Senior Paralegal should also be proficient in Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, as well as various legal-related sites. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, along with excellent organizational, project, and time management skills. The candidate must also be flexible to work overtime and travel as required.
Working Conditions:
The Senior Paralegal will primarily work in a normal office environment, with occasional overnight travel and visits to industrial/manufacturing settings. They may be exposed to various materials and chemicals, extreme temperature conditions, and loud machinery, and may require appropriate personal protective equipment. The candidate must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time and be able to work overtime as needed.
