Job Description:
- Lead the Smoky Mountain Office and satellite office in Murphy
- Ensure high quality legal representation for all clients
- Recruit and nurture talented and diverse advocates
- Inspire exceptional performance and hold staff accountable
- Manage, delegate, and communicate effectively with staff
- Cultivate and sustain strong relationships with the legal and local community
- Participate in setting long-term goals and policies for Legal Aid
- Create a positive learning environment for staff
- Hold Supervising Attorneys to high standards of excellence
- Actively participate in the legal profession in North Carolina
- Represent Legal Aid at internal and external events
- Develop professional development opportunities for staff
- Conduct performance reviews and obtain high quality performance from staff
- Actively participate in development efforts, including fundraising and grant writing
- Develop positive relationships with local and state leaders
- Hear and resolve client and employee grievances
- Coordinate and strategize with Regional Manager
- Implement and enforce all Legal Aid policies and procedures
- Recruit and manage a local advisory council
- Be a strong communicator and partner with other Legal Aid offices
- Collaborate with co-workers, clients, and other legal service providers
- Participate in training to further legal education and stay current on developments in the law
- Manage contracts with the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians and participate in grant writing and litigation in Tribal Court
