Minimum Experience:
Juris Doctorate Degree
Licensed to practice law in the Commonwealth of Virginia
5-7 years of experience in the practice of law
3-5 years of experience in local government law
2 years of litigation experience

Responsibilities:
- Prepare and present cases in state and federal courts
- Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda of law
- Provide legal advice and counsel to the Board of Supervisors and County agencies
- Supervise support staff
- Draft legal documents such as ordinances, contracts, and opinions
- Stay up-to-date on developments in the field of criminal law
- Attend continuing legal education courses
- Advise the various elected constitutional officers on civil matters
- Advise HR on employment-related issues

Requirements:
- Knowledge of legal proceedings, practices, and regulations
- Familiarity with Commonwealth and local laws, codes, and ordinances
- Ability to conduct comprehensive legal research
- Understanding of the judicial system and court procedures
- Skilled in legal writing and oratory
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to use common office machinery
- Ability to interpret and apply laws and court decisions
- Ability to maintain complex legal records
- Ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment
