About the Organization:
The USTP is a component of the Department of Justice (DOJ) and is responsible for enforcing the Bankruptcy Code. With 21 regions and 89 field offices, the USTP has broad administrative, regulatory, and enforcement authorities in bankruptcy cases. Their mission is to promote fairness and integrity in the bankruptcy system for the benefit of all stakeholders, including debtors, creditors, and the public.
Job Description:
As a law student volunteer, you will have the opportunity to work in either the Office of the General Counsel (OGC) or one of the 89 field offices located throughout the country. In OGC, you will assist attorneys in conducting research and drafting legal documents on a variety of matters related to bankruptcy law. In the field offices, you will work with attorneys on preparing for court appearances, developing bankruptcy fraud referrals, and monitoring meetings between debtors and creditors.
Qualifications:
To be considered for this position, you must be a rising second or third year law student with excellent research and writing skills. Attention to detail, a desire to work in a team, and a commitment to fairness and integrity are also important qualities for this role. This is a great opportunity for students interested in bankruptcy law, litigation, administrative law, policy, and legislation.
Work Schedule:
The USTP requires a commitment of 10 to 16 hours per week for at least 10 weeks from September to December. However, specific hours may vary depending on the office, and some flexibility is available.
