Job Summary:

**MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. is seeking a Staff Attorney to join our team in Martinsburg, WV. In this role, you will provide high quality legal services to low-income clients in areas such as housing, family law, unemployment, custody, benefits, and domestic violence. As a member of our team, you will have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of those in need and gain valuable experience in magistrate, family, and circuit court.

Responsibilities:

• Provide legal representation and services to low-income clients, following professional and LAWV organizational standards.
• Prepare legal documents, advise clients, gather evidence, conduct research, and represent clients in court and before administrative agencies.
• Maintain accurate and complete records.
• Receive mentorship, training, and case reviews during your first year.
• Attend and participate in task forces focused on issues impacting clients.
• Work occasional nights and weekends, and travel locally and out-of-town as needed.
• Engage the legal community to provide pro bono services to clients.

Salary and Benefits:

This is a full-time, salaried position with an annual starting salary range of $53,000 - $61,400. LAWV also offers a generous benefits package, including a workweek, paid vacation and sick leave, health, dental, vision, and life insurance, and retirement and flexible spending account options. We are also an eligible nonprofit employer for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program.

Our Martinsburg office is located in Berkeley County, the fastest growing area of West Virginia. Qualifications:

• Demonstrable commitment to understanding and addressing issues of low-income constituents.
• . and admission to practice in West Virginia in good standing, or eligibility for admission under West Virginia Supreme Court Rule 9 or to take the next regularly scheduled West Virginia Bar Exam.
• Proficiency in office technologies, including learning LAWV case management software.
• Ability to balance administrative and client advocacy responsibilities.

Other Duties:

• Develop goals and identify training needs with supervisor.
• Prepare reports and complete necessary forms and records in a timely manner.
