With over 200 employees, including 100 attorneys, we offer free services and resources on a wide range of civil legal issues. We also engage in impact litigation to enact long-term systemic change and collaborate with partners to expand access to justice and change laws and policies that adversely affect the underserved.

As a Disaster Legal Services Attorney, you will have the opportunity to work with our Disaster Legal Services project, providing legal services to those affected by disasters under the supervision of a Managing Attorney. You will also collaborate with Legal Aid directors, staff, volunteers, and contractors to ensure our clients receive the assistance they need.

Qualifications:

- Active membership in the California State Bar
- Minimum 5-8 years experience in the practice of law, including prior disaster-related experience preferred
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work effectively with diverse staff and partners
- Commitment to LAFLA's community-driven mission and priorities
- Willingness to work beyond a minimum workday, including evening and weekend meetings and events

Responsibilities:

- Litigating cases in various courthouses in Los Angeles County
- Providing disaster legal services related to housing, public assistance, and other issues
- Interviewing and counseling clients affected by disasters
- Participating in clinics and other community outreach projects
- Working on policy issues relating to recent disasters
- Representing clients at administrative hearings and writs
- Other duties as assigned
