Staff Attorney- Employment Unit

CLS, a non-profit public interest agency, is seeking a staff attorney for our Employment Unit. This is a full-time position with a competitive salary and benefits package. The Employment Unit focuses on removing barriers to employment, fighting against worker exploitation, and ensuring fair pay and benefits for workers. The ideal candidate will have experience in criminal and child abuse record expungement, administrative hearings, policy advocacy, and working with diverse populations. The position also involves community engagement and working with grassroots organizations.

Responsibilities:
- Direct client representation for criminal record expungement, fair hiring rights, and litigation
- Advocacy with employers regarding clients' rights
- Representing clients in administrative hearings for removal from child abuse registry
- Policy advocacy on local, state, and national levels
- Community engagement through criminal record clinics and advocacy campaigns
- Handling cases and projects from other areas of the unit as needed

Qualifications:
- Minimum 3 years of experience
- Excellent analytical, legal research, and writing skills
- Experience with administrative or court hearings
- Commitment to racial and economic justice
- Interest in policy advocacy and impact litigation
- Experience working with grassroots organizations
- Sound professional and legal judgment
- Excellent organization, time management, and communication skills
- Commitment to public interest work

Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge and experience in employment law, criminal law, or family defense
- Bilingual in Spanish or other languages
- Lived experience with the impact of criminal or child abuse records

Compensation: This is a full-time position with a competitive salary based on experience. The current minimum starting salary is $63,000 for newly admitted attorneys, with increases based on relevant experience and collective bargaining agreement provisions.
