NYSERDA, the New York State Energy Research & Development Authority, is seeking a Legal Intern to join their team. This paid internship offers the opportunity to work on a variety of legal issues related to energy efficiency, renewable energy, and climate change. The successful candidate will assist attorneys in conducting research, reviewing documents, and preparing legal documents. They will also have the opportunity to work on projects related to nuclear waste and environmental issues. This internship is ideal for a current law student looking to gain hands-on experience in the legal field while also contributing to the fight against global climate change.

NYSERDA is a driving force in New York's clean energy economy, working with stakeholders across various sectors to develop and invest in clean energy solutions. As a Legal Intern, you will have the opportunity to be a part of this important work and contribute to the development of a more sustainable future for New York State.

Responsibilities:

- Conduct research and writing on various legal issues related to energy, climate change, and environmental regulations
- Review documents and assist with research on nuclear waste and environmental issues
- Assist attorneys in reviewing and preparing legal documents
- Respond to Freedom of Information Law requests and other information requests
- Perform other tasks as assigned by the Counsel's Office

Qualifications:

- Current full-time student at an accredited law school
- Ability to work in-person at NYSERDA's Albany or New York City location
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Lexis Advance, and other legal research resources
- Strong research skills and ability to manage multiple tasks
- Demonstrated respect and equity for a diverse workforce and community

Location and Hours:

This internship will be located in either Albany or New York City, but interns must be located in New York State or an immediately adjacent state while working. The intern will follow NYSERDA's telework policy, with a combination of in-office and remote work. During the semester, interns will work up to hours per week, and up to hours per week between semesters when not attending classes.

Compensation:

The pay rate for interns is $18 to $20 per hour, based on current class year. This internship will begin in either the Spring or Summer semester of 2025.
