- Full-time position with a competitive salary range of $67,000-$89,000/year
- Master of Social Work (MSW) education level required
- Interdisciplinary legal defense model serving primarily Black and Brown families and youth in Queens, Manhattan, the Bronx, and Staten Island
- Goal to defend and protect clients' rights, reduce harm of family separation, and prevent or minimize time spent in foster system
- Unique model assigns each client an attorney, social work staff member, and support from parent advocates
- 8 parent advocates with lived experience working in all four family defense locations
- Early Defense Practice represents parents during ACS investigations
- SCR Practice assists parents in clearing their names from state maltreatment records
- Youth Defense Practice (YDP) defends youth at risk of family separation through incarceration
- Home for Good program provides legal and social work services to clients in immigration, civil legal services, and criminal defense matters
- Trains over 500 practitioners annually and provides community-based "Know Your Rights" presentations
- Advocate for policies at city, state, and national level to reduce harm of family separation and promote justice for youth and families
- Immediate opening for Social Worker in Queens office
- Work as part of interdisciplinary legal teams to provide high-quality legal defense and meet objectives such as keeping children out of foster care and promoting reunification
- Conduct intake and client interviews, assess needs and goals, refer clients for services, and advocate for clients at ACS and foster care conferences
- Intensive training on CFR's Cornerstone Advocacy model, family policing system, family court, and critical skills
- Professional development opportunities to eventually supervise MSW interns, conduct trainings, and participate in policy initiatives
- LMSW or MSW degree required, must be eligible and willing to become licensed within ten months of hire
- Prior experience with NYC family policing system or family court preferred
- Fluency in Spanish or other languages preferred
- Experience with public benefits, education, housing, or immigration desirable
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, commitment to interdisciplinary representation, and desire to share in the challenges of a growing endeavor required
