Director of Library Services Job Description:
- Manage all aspects of the library, including budget, staff, collections, services, and space
- Strategize and implement best practices, processes, policies, and goals for the library
- Ensure knowledge and research services adhere to firm quality standards and market best practices
- Select, supervise, evaluate, and train team members
- Perform budgeting and expense management for the department
- Lead daily technical operations for information resources
- Design and deliver research and resources orientation and training sessions for legal professionals
- Promote resources and maintain intranet pages and tools for research and retrieval
- Evaluate, select, and implement information resources and technologies for the library
- Conduct periodic reviews and comparisons of new and existing electronic resources
- Gather internal metrics to guide initiatives and ensure adoption of tools and resources
- Supervise and conduct in-depth research in a wide range of areas including practice-specific areas of law, business intelligence, public records, legislative history, and media
- Maintain expert working knowledge of library collections and online database resources
- Process invoices and record data in acquisition databases
- Educate the firm about copyright compliance
Requirements:
- Master's Degree in Library and Information Science or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 5+ years of experience managing library operations and conducting legal research in a legal or comparable environment
- Deep understanding of efficient legal research process and tools
- Experience reviewing and negotiating contracts for library and knowledge tools resources
- Previous experience preparing and managing budgets
- Strong leadership skills, critical thinking, and creativity
- Expert knowledge of legal and business electronic resources and databases
- Proficiency in Windows-based software and Microsoft Office Suite applications
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
