Essential Functions:
- Confirm coverage by reviewing first notice of loss, checking systems, and interpreting policy language
- Prepare initial position letters to policyholder
- Conduct thorough investigation of claim, securing facts, statements, and documents
- Identify joint tortfeasors and witnesses, and conduct scene investigation
- Post, review, and maintain reserves based on liability and damage evaluation
- Manage file towards final disposition through effective diary, direction to defense counsel, and analysis and strategy for settlement or trial
- Communicate with underwriting, actuary, and reinsurers
- Maintain comprehensive and concise claim notes
- Respond to phone and email inquiries in a timely manner
- Complete special projects as assigned
- Enroll in continuing education to maintain state licenses and support professional and personal development
- Travel for mediations and court hearings

Minimum Job Requirements:
- 2+ years (Associate Claims Examiner) or 7+ years (Claim Examiner) of relevant experience in general liability/casualty/excess matters
- Prior experience as examiner, adjuster, paralegal, or other transferable role
- Excess liability experience, multi-jurisdictional knowledge, advanced degrees, or JD are a plus
