KPMG is seeking an experienced Manager for their State and Local Tax (SALT) practice, focusing on income franchise consulting. This role offers the opportunity to work with a diverse team on complex state tax issues, develop innovative solutions, and build relationships with high-profile clients.

Responsibilities:

- Work with a national multi-disciplinary team to assist clients with state tax issues, including organizational structure optimization, refund opportunities, technology solutions, and general consulting matters
- Lead state tax return review engagements, with a focus on securing income tax refunds for clients
- Assist multi-national companies with state and local tax controversies, including preparing for discussions with auditors, representing clients at hearings and appeal meetings, and preparing protests
- Review technical memoranda and slide decks on income, franchise, sales and use tax, and other state and local tax questions
- Manage client relationships and supervise, mentor, and develop associates

Qualifications:

- Minimum of 5 years of recent experience in tax research, state income tax return review, restructuring engagements, and providing technical advice on multi-state income tax issues
- Bachelor's degree required; CPA, EA, or JD/LLM preferred
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams in providing state and local income tax consulting services
- Excellent business development skills and ability to build relationships
- Strong writing, compliance, communication, management, and tax research skills
- Thrives in a high-energy team environment

- California Salary Range: $124200 - $207900
