The **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***., located in the Metrotech area of Brooklyn, New York is seeking experienced Attorneys to join the Human Trafficking Unit. This unit vigorously investigates and prosecutes individuals who have forced others into prostitution and/or labor through force, fraud, or coercion. The unit also engages in community outreach to educate residents on the dangers of human trafficking and how to identify warning signs.
The ideal candidates for this position will work under the direction of the Unit Chief and will be responsible for evaluating and investigating individuals accused of Human Trafficking offenses. They will also present cases to the Grand Jury for indictment and prosecute those cases in Brooklyn's Supreme Court.
To excel in this role, applicants must be able to thrive in a fast-paced environment and handle a high volume of cases and investigations. They should also possess strong independent working skills and the ability to collaborate with others both within and outside of the agency. A strong background in litigation, including jury trials, and a working knowledge of criminal procedure and rules of evidence is also preferred.
Candidates must have at least 10 years of legal experience, as well as prior experience prosecuting human trafficking, sex crimes, or domestic violence cases. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate and investigate individuals accused of committing Human Trafficking offenses.
- Present cases to the Grand Jury for indictment and then prosecute those cases in Brooklyn’s Supreme Court through disposition.
- Engage in community outreach by conducting meetings at schools and community centers to educate Brooklyn residents on the dangers of human trafficking and how to identify warning signs.
Preferred Skills
- Ability to excel in a fast-paced work environment and handle a high volume of cases and investigations.
- Strong independent working skills and the ability to collaborate with others within and outside of the agency.
- Litigation experience, including a record of jury trials, and a working knowledge of criminal procedure and rules of evidence.
