Job Responsibilities:
The Head of Legal Response Operations at the company is responsible for overseeing the Law Enforcement Response Team (LERT) and the Civil Response Team (CRT). This leadership role is crucial for shaping the strategic direction and driving operational excellence within the department. The leader will be instrumental in aligning workflows with federal, state, and international legal standards, ensuring compliance with laws such as the Electronic Communications Privacy Act of 1986 (ECPA), the Stored Communications Act (SCA), and others. The role involves developing robust programs to prepare team members for court testimony and managing legal obligations related to subpoenas, search warrants, preservation requests, court orders, and restraining orders. The position requires a strong legal background, preferably with courtroom experience in criminal law, and involves daily exposure to potentially harmful content, emphasizing the need for resilience and commitment to self-care.
Education and Experience Information:
- Advanced legal training or degree (JD or equivalent) is required.
- Courtroom experience is mandatory, with a preference for criminal law.
- Extensive experience in legal operations, compliance, or related fields is necessary.
- Strong understanding of relevant laws and regulations, including ECPA, SCA, COPPA, and the California Consumer Privacy Act.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, thrive in ambiguous environments, and navigate challenges where no precedent exists.
- Preferred qualifications include familiarity with international data privacy laws, a proven track record of building and scaling operational teams, and the ability to work in high-pressure environments.
Salary Information:
The base salary range for the Head of Legal Response Operations position in Washington, DC is $132,300 to $243,000 annually. Compensation may vary based on qualifications, skills, competencies, experience, and location. In addition to base pay, the role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses, incentives, and restricted stock units.
