Job Overview:
A law firm located in Baltimore, MD, is looking to hire an experienced Patent Prosecution and Litigation Associate Attorney. This position is focused on the electrical engineering and software or mechanical practice areas, offering a unique opportunity to contribute to a diverse and growing team. The role will involve managing patent prosecution matters, including drafting applications and handling complex intellectual property litigation.

Duties:

• Drafting and prosecuting patent applications in various technologies, including electrical engineering, software, and mechanical fields.
• Representing clients in patent litigation and providing legal advice on IP strategies.
• Analyzing and responding to office actions from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
• Collaborating with clients and internal teams to develop and execute patent portfolios.
• Conducting legal research and preparing detailed patent opinions and briefs.
• Managing and overseeing junior associates or support staff when needed.
• Advising clients on the strategic aspects of patent protection and enforcement.

Requirements:

• 3 to 6 years of experience in patent prosecution, particularly in application drafting.
• A degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field such as physics or mathematics.
• Registration with the USPTO as a patent practitioner.
• Must be admitted to practice in Maryland.
• Experience in additional forms of intellectual property law is an asset.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong analytical and organizational abilities.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (such as Mathematics or Physics).

Certifications:

• Registered with the USPTO.
• Admitted to practice law in Maryland.
