Job Overview:

A law firm is seeking an experienced Tax and Development Finance Attorney to join their Syracuse, NY office. The ideal candidate will have expertise in federal taxation, business transaction structuring, and real estate development projects, including experience with federal and New York State tax credit transactions. The role offers opportunities to work on complex legal matters involving tax-informed structuring and project financing.

Location:

  • Syracuse, NY

Duties:

  • Provide tax-informed structuring for commercial real estate development transactions, including multifamily developments
  • Form limited liability companies, partnerships, corporations, and other business entities
  • Structure multi-tiered LLCs and partnerships for economic agreements among project owners and investors
  • Plan, negotiate, and structure project financing involving federal business tax credits (., green energy, low-income housing, and rehabilitation tax credits)
  • Work with state tax credits, particularly New York State tax credits, and other state and local economic development programs
  • Assist in structuring and financing merger and acquisition transactions
  • Collaborate with developers, investors, lenders, governmental agencies, and bond issuers for project financing

Requirements:

  • Licensed to practice law in New York State
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in tax, business, and real estate transactions
  • Demonstrable experience in the areas of tax credit transactions, project financing, and entity structuring
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Dedication to client service, problem-solving skills, and proficiency in quantitative analysis (including Excel)

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
  • Additional consideration given to candidates with an in Taxation or a background in accounting, finance, or economics

Certifications:

  • Admission to the New York State Bar

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of federal and state tax laws related to real estate and business transactions
  • Proficiency in entity formation, partnership structuring, and project financing
  • Ability to negotiate and structure tax credit transactions
  • Excellent communication and client management skills
  • Advanced quantitative skills, including the use of Excel for financial modeling
