Job Overview:
A prestigious law firm, with a strong regional presence and national reach, is seeking a motivated Defense Litigation Associate Attorney to join its team. This role focuses on New York State Labor Law and personal injury litigation, offering an excellent opportunity to grow within a collaborative environment. The successful candidate will handle diverse cases while working with experienced attorneys across multiple offices.

Duties:

  • Research labor law and personal injury issues, collaborating with senior attorneys on defense strategies
  • Take and defend depositions, ensuring effective representation of clients
  • Manage discovery and e-discovery processes, overseeing documentation and evidence
  • Draft legal memoranda, pleadings, discovery demands, motions, and briefs
  • Participate in trial preparation and alternative dispute resolution (ADR) strategies
  • Represent clients in court conferences and motion appearances
  • Handle day-to-day management of cases under supervision
  • Maintain a high billable hour threshold, meeting the firm’s requirement of 1900 billable hours annually

Requirements:

  • At least 2 years of experience in general liability litigation
  • Proven experience in Labor Law and personal injury litigation
  • Admission to the New York Bar is required
  • Additional admission to Connecticut, Massachusetts, and/or New Jersey preferred (or ability to waive into NJ)
  • Experience before New York State Courts is required; federal experience is a plus
  • Strong deposition, motion practice, and e-discovery experience
  • Ability to participate in remote depositions and meetings using video conferencing platforms (Zoom, MS Teams, etc.)
  • Willingness to travel for in-person depositions and court conferences, including overnight stays

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (.) from an ABA-accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Admission to the New York State Bar (required)
  • Admission to additional State Bars (Connecticut, Massachusetts, and/or New Jersey) is preferred

  • Ability to manage a high caseload and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • High level of organizational skills, prioritizing tasks effectively
