Job Overview: A reputable law firm in Oak Park, IL is seeking an experienced Associate Immigration Attorney to join their dynamic team. As an integral part of the Immigration team, the Associate Attorney will handle removal defense, family-based immigration petitions, and various USCIS applications, all while working in close collaboration with senior attorneys and legal assistants. Duties:

  • Represent clients in removal proceedings before the Immigration Court and the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA), handling both detained and non-detained cases.
  • Conduct intake meetings with detained individuals at immigration detention centers.
  • Develop strategic immigration solutions tailored to clients' unique situations.
  • Prepare and submit a wide range of immigration applications, including removal defense, family-based immigration petitions, and other USCIS filings.
  • Review and edit immigration applications and ensure compliance with legal requirements.
  • Liaise with law enforcement, government agencies, and community-based organizations regarding updates to immigration laws and policies.
  • Provide strategic consultations to clients, assessing their needs and recommending appropriate legal actions.
  • Prepare clients and witnesses for USCIS interviews and court hearings, ensuring they are well-informed and confident.
  • Draft legal briefs and documents for various immigration-related cases.
  • Effectively manage a caseload and meet deadlines while maintaining a high standard of legal practice.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 1-4 years of experience in Immigration Law.
  • Proven ability to manage a caseload and drive cases forward efficiently.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and clients.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
  • Familiarity with Family-Based Petitions, Humanitarian Relief, EOIR proceedings, Detained Cases, Citizenship, and other USCIS applications.
  • Prior experience with case management software is a plus.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Active admission to the State Bar.

Certifications:

  • Licensed to practice law in the state of Illinois (or ability to obtain licensure).

Skills:

  • Strong legal writing and research skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Proficient in legal software and case management systems.
  • Ability to strategize and work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to client satisfaction.
