Job Overview:
A leading law firm with a strong Northeast presence is seeking an Associate Attorney to join its Financial Restructuring, Bankruptcy, and Creditors' Rights team. The position offers the opportunity to represent creditors, sureties, trustees, debtors, and committees in a variety of bankruptcy and litigation matters. The ideal candidate will have 1-5 years of litigation experience, with a preference for creditors’ rights experience. Training and mentorship will be provided, and the role offers a hybrid work schedule.

Location:

  • Syracuse, NY

Duties:

  • Draft demand letters, state court motions, memoranda, pleadings, discovery demands and responses, briefs, etc.
  • Research legal and factual issues to develop strategies for clients in bankruptcy and insolvency matters
  • Represent creditor clients in collateral preservation, recovery, and judgment enforcement
  • Assist lenders in workout and forbearance agreements
  • Appear in court (state court and bankruptcy court) on behalf of clients
  • Collaborate with colleagues across multiple offices to manage cases
  • Meet a minimum of 1800 billable hours annually

Requirements:

  • 1-5 years of litigation experience, with a preference for creditors' rights experience
  • Bankruptcy court experience is preferred, but not required
  • Juris Doctor (.) from an ABA-accredited law school
  • Admission to the New York State Bar
  • Familiarity with video conferencing platforms such as Zoom and MS Teams
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Excellent research, writing, and verbal communication skills
  • High level of organizational skills and the ability to prioritize competing tasks
  • Ability to rapidly process and understand new information
  • Strong attention to detail and conscientiousness in all tasks
  • A cooperative, professional, positive, and flexible attitude
  • Military experience is welcome

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (.) from an ABA-accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Must be admitted to practice law in New York

Skills:

  • Litigation experience with a focus on creditors' rights
  • Bankruptcy court experience (preferred)
  • Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills
  • Proficiency with MS Teams, Zoom, and other video conferencing platforms
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to manage competing priorities effectively
