Counsel, Litigation Management - Join Our Growing Legal Team! - Job title: Counsel, Litigation Management - Job category: Legal - Job schedule: Full time - Company: Carrington Mortgage Holdings - Salary range: $125, to $175, per year - Location: Aliso Viejo, CA, US - Experience required: Minimum of 4 years as a lawyer in the mortgage banking industry, with at least 1 year specifically related to mortgage servicing issues. Previous experience with GNMA, FHA, USDA, VA and/or reverse mortgage is preferred. In-house and law firm experience is also preferred. Responsibilities: - Manage litigation, conduct research, draft memoranda, and provide general advice and counsel on pre-litigation and litigation matters involving mortgage servicing operations. - Retain and manage outside counsel, review invoices, and oversee performance of in-house paralegals. - Develop and implement strategies for pre-litigation and litigation matters. - Review settlement offers and make recommendations. - Meet billable hours requirement set by department management. - Research and analyze relevant case law, statutes, and regulations. - Monitor pre-litigation and litigation matters and prepare reports for management review. - Review escalated customer complaints and assist with drafting responses. - Review title issues and prepare title claims. - Work closely with business units to respond to discovery, develop strategies, and resolve matters. - Assist with preparation of monthly and quarterly reports. - Analyze and interpret legal materials and effectively communicate with outside counsel. - Operate in a fast-paced, high-volume environment and work collaboratively with an experienced in-house legal team. - Use creative problem-solving skills to effectively handle legal matters. Qualifications: - Law degree from an accredited law school. - Minimum of 4 years of experience as a lawyer in the mortgage banking industry. - Previous experience with GNMA, FHA, USDA, VA and/or reverse mortgage is preferred. - In-house and law firm experience is preferred. - Experience managing outside counsel costs and litigation budgets is a plus.
