The Senior Assistant General Counsel, Employment Law Group will play a key role in managing legal matters related to labor and employment law for our organization. This is a highly autonomous position that requires extensive knowledge and experience in the field. The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring legislation, regulations, case law, and government enforcement activities related to employment law and providing strategic advice to various functional areas within the organization. This role will also involve working closely with outside counsel and collaborating with other employment lawyers and key stakeholders to provide practical and scalable advice on a range of employment matters. The Senior Assistant General Counsel will have a significant impact on the organization and will be expected to lead major projects and processes, influence strategic direction, and provide comprehensive solutions to complex legal issues. SEO Friendly Job Title: Senior Assistant General Counsel, Employment Law Group H1: Join Our Team as a Senior Assistant General Counsel for Employment Law H2: Manage Legal Matters and Provide Strategic Advice for Labor and Employment Law Responsibilities: • Provide advice, counsel, and support to assigned functional areas and make recommendations to senior management on corporate action • Manage outside counsel for activities related to labor and employment law matters • Partner, advise, and collaborate with other employment lawyers and key teams and stakeholders across the organization on relevant matters • Oversee human resource management activities, including identifying performance problems and evaluating performance of legal department staff • Plan, assign, monitor, review, and evaluate the work of legal department staff • Coach and mentor others, including providing guidance and direction for career development opportunities • Interpret, apply, and recommend changes to organizational policies and procedures • Review progress of assignments with senior management and balance conflicting resource and priority demands • Manage all legal matters related to assigned functional areas and communicate developments to management • Determine allocation of legal reserves when applicable and oversee maintenance of case status reports • Assist in developing, preparing, and presenting case theories and strategies • Prepare and deliver written and oral presentations on legal issues to senior management • Stay current in corporate and financial securities regulatory law and advise the organization on rules and regulations • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned Qualifications: • Advanced knowledge of labor and employment laws, global diversity, equity, and inclusion matters, and employment-related compliance • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to quickly build trust and influence cross-functional partners • Experience in managing a large volume of complex corporate legal matters • Ability to develop, prepare, and present case theories and strategies • Proficiency in using standard office equipment and legal case management software • Ability to plan, assign, monitor, and lead the work of others and review their performance • Knowledge of policies and procedures and ability to interpret and recommend changes • Ability to provide legal advice, counsel, and recommendations to senior management • Strong partnership skills and ability to facilitate meetings and gather information • Ability to interpret and apply complex legal information and prioritize and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team • Ability to handle stressful situations and provide a high level of customer service • Strong relationship-building skills and ability to establish effective working relationships at all levels of the organization Educational/Previous Experience Requirements: • Juris Doctorate (.) with excellent academic credentials and a minimum of 10 years of experience in relevant practice areas (law firm, regulator or self-regulatory organization, and/or in-house in a related area involving financial services industry preferred) • OR equivalent combination of experience, education, and training approved by Human Resources Licenses/Certifications: • Member in good standing in at least one state bar • Ability to obtain Florida Authorized House Counsel, if not a member of the Florida bar Raymond James Guiding Behaviors: At Raymond James, we have five guiding behaviors (Develop, Collaborate, Decide, Deliver, Improve) that we expect our associates to embody.
