This full-time position, based at their Raleigh Campus (Andrews Center), will report to the Vice President and Chief Legal Officer or another attorney in the WakeMed Office of Legal Affairs. The Assistant General Counsel Transactions will provide legal counsel to WakeMed and its affiliates and subsidiaries on a wide range of legal issues related to healthcare contracting, patient care, managed care, third-party reimbursement, EMTALA, HIPAA, and healthcare regulatory compliance. Responsibilities: - Provide legal counsel to WakeMed and its affiliates and subsidiaries on a variety of legal issues related to healthcare contracting, patient care, managed care, third-party reimbursement, EMTALA, HIPAA, and healthcare regulatory compliance. - Review and negotiate contracts with vendors and commercial partners in areas such as supply chain, support services, purchasing, clinical research, and academic affiliation agreements. - Participate in the internal management of the contracting process and contract lifecycle management resources. - Conduct legal research and provide counsel to management and various departments on legal compliance and regulatory matters. - Monitor legislative, regulatory, government enforcement, and other activities related to fraud, abuse, compliance, and legal matters affecting WakeMed operations. - Collaborate with WakeMed entities, departments, and providers to understand their processes and business practices. - Provide legal and risk management advice and counsel on a variety of healthcare and regulatory matters related to general hospital operations. - Recommend and provide content for appropriate education and training related to areas of interest to the WakeMed entities. - Provide shared after-hours call coverage as needed. - Demonstrate teamwork and integrity in all work-related activities. - Ensure that work performed supports the WakeMed mission, vision, and values to improve the health of the communities it serves with a focus on patient- and family-centered care. - Develop solutions to complex problems that require the regular use of ingenuity and innovation. - Manage workload in a diligent, dependable, and organized fashion to handle a high volume of matters simultaneously under deadline pressure. - Perform related duties as assigned by the Chief Legal Officer. Experience and Education Requirements: - 2 years of experience in a legal health system, hospital, or multi-specialty physician practice, or related position experience in healthcare law and legal advising and agreement negotiation and drafting. - Doctorate in Law. - Licensed to practice law.
