Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal advice and representation in regulatory, legislative, litigation, and transactional matters within the energy sector.
  • Represent energy companies and large industrial users in negotiations and power purchase agreements with utilities.
  • Handle the regulation of utilities at both the state and federal levels.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with clients, fostering teamwork and collaboration.
  • Manage confidential information and sensitive situations with tact and discretion.
  • Identify, analyze, and resolve complex legal issues, making decisions and initiating effective solutions.
  • Adapt to new skills and best practices as the position and firm needs evolve.
  • Work independently and as part of a team to meet tight deadlines and handle unexpected challenges.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external clients, attorneys, and staff.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor while responding proactively to innovative solutions.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 7+ years of experience in the energy industry.
  • Extensive regulatory experience in energy, specifically electricity, utilities, and renewables.
  • Proven experience working with clients in the energy industry on regulatory, legislative, litigation, and transactional matters.
  • Experience with the regulation of utilities at both state and federal levels.
  • Proven track record representing energy companies and large industrial users in negotiations and power purchase agreements.
  • Excellent academic credentials.

Education and Certifications:

  • Juris Doctor (.) degree from an ABA accredited law school.
  • Membership in good standing with the state bar.

Skills:

  • Strong litigation, regulatory, and legislative experience in the energy and/or extractive industries.
  • Ability to learn and embrace new skills and best practices.
  • Capacity to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
