This role involves working on complex environmental cases, including litigation, compliance, and regulatory matters at both the state and federal levels. The candidate will have the opportunity to represent clients in matters involving environmental enforcement, regulatory issues, and transactional support. An ideal candidate will possess strong research and writing skills, be adept at analyzing environmental statutes, and be capable of handling cases requiring remedial action under state and federal laws, particularly CERCLA. Key Responsibilities

  • Litigation Representation: Provide legal representation in environmental litigation cases, including CERCLA and other federal and state environmental laws.
  • Legal Research and Writing: Conduct thorough legal research on environmental laws and regulations, drafting pleadings, briefs, motions, and memoranda.
  • Compliance Advisory: Advise clients on compliance with federal and state environmental regulations and statutes.
  • Transactional Support: Assist in environmental transactions, conducting due diligence, and advising on potential environmental liabilities.
  • Regulatory Analysis: Analyze the applicability of state and federal environmental statutes and regulatory frameworks to various client matters.
  • Remediation Case Management: Oversee representation of clients in cases requiring remedial action under CERCLA and other relevant environmental laws.
  • Government Negotiations: Represent clients in enforcement actions and disputes with government agencies concerning environmental compliance.
  • Client Communication: Maintain strong client relationships through ongoing communication and providing tailored legal advice.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with other attorneys, experts, and staff to develop legal strategies and solutions for complex environmental issues.

Requirements

  • Experience: 2-3 years of experience in environmental law, with a focus on litigation, compliance, and regulatory matters.
  • Legal Expertise: In-depth exposure to state and federal environmental laws, including CERCLA, environmental compliance, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Case Management: Proven ability to manage environmental litigation and remediation cases, providing strategic advice and representation.
  • Admission: Must be admitted to practice law in the state of Illinois or eligible to gain admission.

Education and Certifications

  • Juris Doctor (.): Degree from an accredited law school.
  • Bar Admission: Active admission to the Illinois State Bar is required.
  • Environmental Law Credentials: Certifications or coursework in environmental law are advantageous but not required.
