Overview:
The Cook County State's Attorney's Office is seeking experienced civil litigation attorneys to join the Civil Actions Bureau as an Assistant State's Attorney (ASA). This is a full-time position located in Chicago, IL at the Daley Center. As an ASA, you will represent Cook County officials and employees in a wide range of litigation matters, including civil rights and tort claims defense, labor & employment, constitutional claims, medical malpractice defense, and more. The Civil Actions Bureau is a highly collaborative and supportive environment, offering opportunities for growth and development. The salary range for this position is $88,434 - $156,060, with individual compensation based on factors such as skill set and years of experience.
Responsibilities:
• Represent Cook County officials and employees in a variety of litigation matters
• Handle own caseload with support and training from colleagues
• Collaborate with colleagues in a highly collegial work environment
• Provide advisory opinions to government clients
• Work on appeals, evidentiary hearings, and preliminary injunctions
• Manage a varied and high-volume government practice
• Maintain a strong work-life balance
Qualifications:
• Juris Doctor degree and license to practice in the State of Illinois
• Minimum 1 year of civil litigation practice (some sections require more experience)
• Highly organized and self-motivated
• Strong writing, research, and oral advocacy skills
• Ability to work independently or in a team
• Familiarity with one or more parts of Cook County government (preferred)
• Experience representing government clients (preferred)
• Experience with evidentiary hearings and appeals (preferred)
• Demonstrated achievements in creative thinking and legal analysis (preferred)
