Job Overview: A law firm seeks a motivated Associate Attorney to join its team in Overland Park, KS. The ideal candidate will have 1-3 years of experience in family law, including matters such as divorce, child custody, child support, and motions to modify. This role provides the opportunity to work closely with clients and senior attorneys while managing a diverse caseload and contributing to case strategy and litigation.

Duties:

  • Conduct legal research and provide analysis on a range of family law issues.
  • Draft legal documents such as pleadings, motions, briefs, contracts, and agreements.
  • Represent clients in court proceedings, hearings, and mediation.
  • Negotiate settlements and agreements on behalf of clients.
  • Assist senior attorneys with case preparation, strategy development, and court appearances.
  • Maintain regular communication with clients, witnesses, and involved parties.
  • Stay current with changes in family law regulations and applicable legal precedents.

Requirements:

  • 1-3 years of experience in family law, particularly in divorce, custody, and support cases.
  • Strong knowledge of family law principles and procedures.
  • Ability to handle court appearances and effectively litigate cases.
  • Willingness to travel outside of Johnson County to courts in Douglas, Miami, and Franklin Counties.
  • A client-centered approach with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and contribute to a positive office environment.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active license to practice law in Kansas.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in legal research, drafting, and analysis.
  • Strong negotiation and litigation skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously.
