A law firm is seeking a Litigation Innovation Attorney to support its innovation initiatives aimed at enhancing the delivery of legal services within the Litigation business unit. This role, reporting to the Global Head of Practice Innovation, focuses on optimizing client service and increasing efficiencies through a combination of people, process, and technology. The Litigation Innovation Attorney will collaborate closely with Litigation leadership and team members to drive transformative projects and integrate advanced solutions into the practice.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Innovation and Efficiency:
    • Lead and support efforts to enhance client service delivery and operational efficiency in the Litigation business unit.
    • Develop and implement best practices for utilizing people, processes, and technology effectively.
    • Spearhead projects to digitalize litigation practice, including automation, data capture, and online resource utilization.
  • Technology Integration:
    • Evaluate, pilot, and support the onboarding of new technologies to enhance legal practice.
    • Lead the rollout and adoption of legal technology within the business unit.
    • Create tailored solutions, such as dashboards, workflow automation, reporting, and budget tracking.
  • Workflow and Process Management:
    • Design and manage matter management workflows, including intake, staffing, timekeeping, billing compliance, and resource materials.
    • Identify and integrate appropriate resources like Orrick Analytics and other litigation technologies.
    • Develop and improve solutions for sharing matter metrics and data with clients and internal teams.
  • Data Strategy and Analysis:
    • Support the firm’s data strategy by tracking matter data, monitoring practice content usage, and capturing experience data.
    • Design platforms to enhance collaboration with clients, local counsel, and third parties.
    • Create and maintain knowledge libraries and databases for expert, mediator, arbitrator, and judicial experiences.
  • AI and Automation:
    • Lead initiatives to integrate AI, including generative AI, into legal practice.
    • Automate workflows and documents to streamline service delivery and improve efficiency.
  • Training and Education:
    • Oversee and support the development and delivery of training on client solutions, practice technology, and processes.
    • Educate legal professionals on practice content, technology, and initiatives to enhance service efficiency.
  • Communication and Collaboration:
    • Consult with administrators, lawyers, paralegals, and staff on practice content, efficiency, and technology.
    • Develop and maintain case studies, marketing materials, and portal pages for the business unit.

Requirements:

  • Education:
    • Juris Doctor (.) from an accredited university or college.
    • Admission to practice in good standing in a US jurisdiction.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 4 years of experience as a litigation attorney in a large law firm.
  • Skills:
    • Superior written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex ideas in layman’s terms.
    • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to handle tasks with limited standardization.
    • Familiarity with best practices and technology for managing workflows, documents, and communications.
    • Understanding of knowledge management, practice management, and project management principles.
    • Enthusiasm for legal technology, including AI and generative AI applications in legal services.
    • Excellent analytical, project management, prioritization, and organizational skills.
    • Self-starter with the ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and prioritize effectively.
    • Collaborative team player with a flexible approach and a sense of ownership and innovation.
    • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills with a positive, diplomatic demeanor.
    • Availability to travel as needed.
    • Willingness to assist with additional projects and initiatives beyond the primary role.
