Duties and Responsibilities

  • Represent clients in matters concerning student services, special education, and disability accommodations.
  • Provide legal counsel to school districts, educational institutions, and families regarding compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and other relevant laws.
  • Conduct in-depth legal research on issues related to special education law and student rights.
  • Draft legal documents, including pleadings, briefs, and correspondence related to student and disability law matters.
  • Advise on the implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and 504 Plans.
  • Attend IEP meetings, mediation sessions, and administrative hearings.
  • Assist with conflict resolution between families and school districts or educational institutions.
  • Stay current with evolving laws, regulations, and case law in the areas of student services and disability rights.
  • Collaborate with other attorneys and legal staff within the firm to provide comprehensive legal services.
  • Participate in community outreach and educational programs to inform families and institutions about their legal rights and obligations.
  • Maintain organized case files and ensure timely completion of all necessary documentation.

Education and Certifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Active membership in the California State Bar (required).
  • Certification in education law or disability rights (preferred but not required).

Skills and Qualifications

  • 0-5 years of experience in education law, disability law, or related legal fields.
  • Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex legal issues.
  • Excellent legal writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to work with diverse clients, including school districts, students, and families.
