Summary: - Organization: Office of the Attorney General - Job Title: Part-time Senior Paralegal (Legal Assistant II) - Experience: 1 year of paralegal experience - Salary Range: - Hourly - Employment Type: Full-Time - Release Date: Friday, September 13, 2024 - Application Deadline: Friday, October 4, 2024, 11:59 pm - FLSA Status: Non-Exempt The Office of the Attorney General is seeking a part-time Senior Paralegal to join the Natural Resources & Environment Section, specifically the Parks Wildlife and Trust Lands (PWTL) and Resource Conservation units. This position offers a great work-life balance while still participating in interesting and rewarding work. The PWTL unit provides legal counsel and representation to the Colorado Division of Parks and Wildlife and the Parks and Wildlife Commission, as well as other related entities. The Resource Conservation unit provides legal counsel and representation to the Colorado Energy and Carbon Management Commission and the Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing professional support for litigation and general counsel attorneys in both units. This includes preparing for hearings and trials, reviewing and organizing administrative records, and providing other support as needed. The candidate will also assist with administrative enforcement matters and will be expected to interact effectively with client agencies and other legal representatives. Key Responsibilities: - Draft and file pleadings, proofread and prepare legal documents, and conduct legal research - Finalize draft orders, pleadings, motions, affidavits, notices, subpoenas, disclosure certificates, and briefs - Assist with trial preparation by identifying and assembling exhibits and compiling evidence summaries and trial notebooks - Compile and organize administrative records, including privilege logs - Assist with managing the rule opinion process - Interact effectively with client agencies and other legal representatives Minimum Qualifications: - Paralegal certificate obtained through an ABA approved program or accredited institution - 1 year of paralegal experience OR - 2 years of work experience in a paralegal capacity OR - Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school Preferred Qualifications: - Paralegal experience in natural resources and environmental law, administrative law, or litigation - Experience maintaining litigation dockets and calendars - Familiarity with state and federal court rules and administrative processes - Familiarity with Colorado's water courts - Training and experience with ProLaw and Relativity - Experience handling electronic and digital documents - Ability to conduct legal research and draft pleadings or motions - Excellent proofreading skills and attention to detail - Ability to work well with a diverse range of customers and on a team Conditions of Employment: - Must pass a thorough background investigation - Expected to work in-office as needed, especially during trial preparation - Occasional travel may be required - Participates in E-Verify To apply for this position, please visit the Office of the Attorney General's website for more information and to submit your application.
